The Magnificent Cowboys is set in the far-out West, past Marlboro country, into Bull Durham territory - where they roll their own. The explicit sequences vary widely in quality, but are all captured by Barry Knight's camera with a high level of proficiency and inventiveness. Nonetheless, selective details, such as a hay-filled barn, a pair of tight, faded jeans, or a ten-gallon Stetson go a long way to bringing the fantasy to life. The Magnificent Cowboys has the potential to join Boys In The Sand and the others in that special category denoting achievement beyond the expectations of audiences and critics. The sex-scenes in the film between the rancher (Ryan) and his new helper (Masters) are so unabashedly sensuous, it's like watching two people who really care for each other as they discover the delights of new found love!
