Three lesbian sisters - Marie McCray, Jessie Andrews and Monique Alexander - must learn to be a family again in Sisters. Mare is coming home for the first time in a while to see her two sisters, Monique and Jessie. When they were young, Monique was forced to take on the role of mother and this cut short all of her plans for life and she wound up resenting her sisters for making her do it, even though it wasn't their fault. She fought especially hard with Marie, who she saw as the free spirit that Monique always wanted to be, and a few years ago, Marie came out as a lesbian. In the meantime, Monique and Jessie have been living together as a kind of dysfunctional family with Monique continuing on her role as mother and Jessie playing like she's the little girl.
